HPS Grow Light ~ The traditional Grow Lights

Traditional growing with an HPS grow light

Do you want to buy an HPS grow light? We have a wide range of HPS grow lights in the webshop, for everyone's needs there is an HPS grow light. HPS grow lights are considered the traditional grow lights and are also called "high pressure sodium" lights.

An HPS grow light is still often used because of the high and powerful light output generated by the lamp, but compared to the LED grow lights available today, there are some disadvantages to the HPS grow lights. They have a higher consumption when it comes to power and also get a lot warmer, in addition, the lifespan of an HPS lamp is much shorter compared to an LED grow light but the purchase is quite cheaper. To get the best results under an HPS grow light, it is recommended to use a separate lamp for the growing and flowering phase, this is partly because HPS grow lights are offered in different spectrums.

What does HPS grow light consist of?

An HPS grow light is available as a complete fixture or in separate parts. In an HPS fixture these separate parts are already connected to each other. But what does HPS grow light actually consist of?

  • A ballast or VSA
    • A VSA ensures that your lamp is started up by means of a peak voltage and the ballast also ensures that current remains within the norm to keep the lamp burning. You can also use a dimmable VSA to dim or boost your grow light.
  • A reflector or lampshade
    • A reflector provides a good reflection of the light produced by the lamp, you connect the ballast to the reflector into which you turn your lamp.
  • A bulb or grow lamp
    • The bulb generates the light that illuminates your crop, a bulb is available in different varieties. These are available from 250 watts to 1000 watts and are available for the growing phase, flowering phase or full spectrum.
