Milwaukee EC40 - Waterproof EC / TDS Nutrient Meter
TOUGH. LAB GRADE. PRO STANDARD.
The Milwaukee EC40 is an easy-to-use but very solid and advanced EC measuring stick that never needs to be calibrated. The EC40 turns on automatically when immersed in a liquid and indicates the EC value of the liquid by means of an LED. The EC is waterproof, has an adjustable alarm value and features four scales namely CF, EC, PPM 500 and PPM 700.
Keep EC/TDS within your target range to help you achieve better results.
DESIGN FEATURES
- Measures conductivity (EC) and total dissolved solids (TDS) with automatic temperature compensation.
- Ideal range for hydroponics (0.2 to 4 mS/cm | 2 to 40 CF | 140 to 2800 ppm 0.7 scale | 100 to 2000 ppm 0.5 scale).
- Units directly in mS/cm/CF/PPM (no conversions required).
- Factory calibration no continuous calibration required.
- High accuracy.
- Automatic temperature compensation (ATC).
- Auto on/off function.
- Blue LED display.
- Graphite electrode in ABC + PC case.
- Battery level indicators.
- Battery life up to 3 years with approx. 10 measurements per day.
- 3 X 1.5V AA (batteries included).
USE AND MAINTENANCE
Use
- Dip the EC40 into the liquid to be measured;
- The LED(s) light up to show the measured value (when two LEDs light up, the measured value is between the two LEDs). When the LED(s) are flashing, the set alarm value has been exceeded. When the upper and lower LED's are flashing the value is outside the measuring range of the EC40;
- 20 seconds after the measurement value is stable, the EC 40 will switch off automatically.
Maintenance
EC electrodes may start to release nutrients over time. Rinse the probe with fresh tap water after each use to prevent build-up.
CONVERTING EC TO TDS
The Milwaukee EC pen, like all conductivity meters, provides a measurement of electrically charged ions in a solution and is an absolute measurement of conductivity.
EC is often converted to TDS in parts per million (ppm). There are several scales, such as the 500 scale, the 650 scale, and the 700 scale. However, the true PPM can only be determined by chemical analysis.
Your mS/cm reading can be converted to TDS (ppm) by approximation:
2,000 µS/cm = 2.0 mS/cm = 1000 ppm on .50 factor scale
2,000 µS/cm = 2.0 mS/cm = 1400 ppm on 442 scale or .70 factor scale
