The advantage of rockwool is that it has a high water holding capacity and contains a lot of air. In addition, stone wool is light, compact and relatively cheap. Therefore, stone wool is the most widely used growing medium in greenhouse horticulture.
However, stone wool is not easy to grow; some knowledge is required. Rockwool has a high PH-value of its own, therefore it is important to water it with a low PH-value (5.1 to 5.5). Make sure that the PH value in the bib is never lower than 5.0. This prevents the wool from collapsing and losing its resilience. By treating rock wool properly, it will last a very long time.
