How do you recognize thrips?
The adult thrips is a grayish yellow, brown insect of about 1 mm in size. Thrips is mainly found in the upper parts of plants, think of the flowers or fruits of your crop. In these areas the thripses also lay their eggs, after about four days orange-colored larvae appear. These larvae can also cause serious damage.
Thrips feed on plant tissue, they puncture the plant cells and suck them dry. Typical are the silver-gray spots on the leaves on which black dots, the droppings of thrips, can be seen. In a severe outbreak of thrips, the leaves can even dry out completely, thrips can also transmit viruses that make plants sick and wilt.
