You do need to pay attention to your humidity, if the humidity is too high the carbon can become saturated or clogged, this can happen for example by using a humidifier. If the activated carbon becomes clogged or saturated the carbon filter will no longer be effective. Once this occurs it is recommended to replace the carbon, this is not possible with every carbon filter and then you will have to replace the carbon filter.
A carbon filter has a filter cloth around it as additional filtration, this cloth filters coarse particles such as dust or unwanted elements from the air. This keeps pollution from reaching the carbon, this will extend the life of your carbon filter.
